EFT - Emotional Freedom Techniques (aka Tapping)
-
Clinical EFT is an evidence-based clinical and self-help modality that combines elements of cognitive, somatic and exposure therapy with the manual stimulation of acupuncture points. It has been described as “an emotional acupuncture without needles” because it is based on the same theory of Chinese acupuncture according to which our body has a map of meridians running throughout the body that carry energy through our system.
The principle behind EFT is that mind and body are intrinsically interconnected and are part of the same system. The “acupoints” are based on the face, hands and torso and by “tapping” on them, the unpleasant emotions associated to triggers, memories, thoughts or behaviours are decreased or released.
-
EFT is done by stimulating some of the acupressure points on our upper body using our fingertips and by tuning in into the emotional, mental or physical problem that we want to resolve and clear.
Tapping on these points while we tune into the emotional, physical or mental issue, both verbally and energetically, decreases the fight or flight response and this enables us to experience shifts in our brain patterns.
Once you have identified a topic or event that you want to work with, I will be gently and slowly guiding you through the process.
The result of it has been described by my clients as “mindblowing” because it can really produce a cognitive shift and a profound transformative experience which has a direct beneficial effect on your emotional and physical wellbeing.
By freeing yourself from the negative emotion associated to that specific event or situation, you will be able to re-frame what happened and change your perception of it, which will have a ripple effect on both your present and your future.
Matrix Reimprinting
-
Matrix Reimprinting is a powerful and gentle Meridian Tapping Therapy which evolved from EFT. It was created by Karl Dawson, whom I trained with, in 2006. It has proven to be effective in healing emotional and physical issues, especially releasing the effects of past trauma and stress from the subconscious mind.
While EFT removes the emotional intensity from a memory or a past event, when we use Matrix Reimprinting, we are able to go into a past memory and transform it by changing the meaning and the negative belief that we have attached to it and that has affected us throughout our lives. In this way, by resolving the past trauma, we are able to attract new and more resourceful experiences into our lives.
-
Before using Matrix Reimprinting in a session, you need to be familiar with the EFT process. If you have never done EFT before, we will start by doing EFT to familiarise yourself with the process, it’s very easy.
I usually incorporate Matrix Reimprinting during an EFT and as a natural flow from it when it’s appropriate.
Once you have identified a past memory that you want to work with using EFT, I will be gently and slowly guiding you through the process.
You will be able to acknowledge and release the uncomfortable emotions associated to the memory, identifying the negative belief that you created or strengthened in that circumstance, and then transform the picture of the memory into a positive one by bringing in new resources, creating a new outcome and transforming the negative belief that was formed originally. We will then be ready to re-imprint the new memory in your body and mind.
Breathwork
-
The practice of breathwork has existed for thousands of years and it is rooted in yoga. Breathwork encompasses various techniques in which the conscious use of breath restores balance in the body-mind system.
Breathwork techniques have shown to promote both psychological and physical benefits, such as reduction of stress, anxiety and depression, improvement of sleeping problems, increased feelings of comfort, relaxation, pleasantness, vigor and alertness.
What are the benefits?
EFT and Matrix Reimprinting have proved to help with a wide range of conditions, such as:
Stress
Anxiety
Trauma
Depression
Anger
Feelings of Isolation and Detachment
Phobias
Sleeping Problems
Traumatic Memories and Events
PTSD
Dependency Issues, i.e. alcohol, food, gambling, nicotine, etc.
Chronic Pain
What’s the science behind EFT?
There is now a wide body of scientific research that proves the efficacy of this methodology and we can say that EFT meets the criteria to be considered evidence-based.
In fact, thanks to fMRI and PET scans it has been proven that tapping decreases the activity of those regions in the brain that linked to fear and stress, like the amygdala and the hippocampus.
There are now over 200 peer-reviewed studies and a continuously growing body of research.

Here is a TED lecture presented by Dr Peta Stapleton, a Clinical and Health Psychologist and one of the world’s leading researchers and EFT experts.
This might not be for you if:
Please help me subsidise more low-cost sessions for clients who experience financial hardship.
Just £20, the price of a cheap lunch, can help subsidise a 75-min session for a person who needs it desperately but can’t afford it.
Thank you in advance!
Expect talk therapy – talking is definitely a part of our sessions but it’s not the main one as the best results come from doing the tapping whilst we focus and talk about the issue, the feelings, the thoughts and emotions connected to it.
You want a quick fix – it might take only a few sessions but sometimes it might take a few months, especially if there is trauma involved. If there is a history of traumatic events and there is severe and deeply rooted anxiety it might take longer than a few months. What I can promise you is that I will do my very best to get you there as safely and as quickly as possible but I cannot put a timescale on it.
There are too many things going on in your life at the moment and you don’t have the time and money to invest in yourself right now. And that’s okay.
